What to be aware of during Winter

Disturbance of protected species, or destruction of shelters used by these species, is made illegal by the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Contraventions of this act can result in fines of up to £5000 per offence and up to 6 months in prison.

Winter is the best season to undertake vegetation clearance works, as many species will be less active or hibernating. However it is still important to be aware of how and where protected species hibernate, in order to avoid disturbing these species during winter vegetation clearance.
